Newsletter No. 9: Spickeln in Shakespeare
"not complaining, what not to change, but change what is to be deplored." (William Shakespeare)
Dear parents and friends, love
volunteers and star setter
It was jinxed! No sooner had I finished this newsletter, new messages have arrived, for their part, were hardly inserted already outdated.
Therefore, I will largely absent in this mail once all water levels (who yesterday had a cold and everything has now fallen in love). The overall impression remains: Chance, there are adjustment problems (look at the different culture, sometimes to the German co-volunteer who makes the kitchen always much less than you) - and sometimes get homesick (for example, of gingerbread!). We
close because of the many positive messages not green eyes, that one or the other - deep in him / her in it - has to fight quite beautiful, but the outside just want to show strength. In addition, this newsletter is not the place to share internals from maintainer talks.
But overall - and judged that we are statistically soon be in the worst time of year - it's our sensational! This vintage rocks!
And if we then want to take time but the mood monster on the horizon down then we just try it with humor - this Schwimmguertel on the stream of life. Our Palestine-FW have the same time a reusable sample invitation to a low-Party drafted (see Annex). Come on, U-Curve-volunteers: the world for the best low party and the best photo of it, we buy at the meeting between a bucket of Nutella. We are excited ... J

Pure joy! Look at this clip from the slums of Santo Domingo on your 2 x. The first time you see children playing football. But the second time you see that it really right about something else all about: self-esteem, cohesion and dreams. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg0UEdIzPYU

Toll what we all can learn from these reports alongside!
did I just read the excellent report by Anna from Palestine and learned a) that Palestinians with a black dot in the passport never get through the checkpoints b) that Friday and Sunday there, the school-free days (normal probably Friday / Saturday) c) the Jerusalem = Al Qudz means d) only 20 minutes from Jerusalem Beit Jala is removed and both won worlds separate e), Anna in the West Bank feels safer in Israel f) that grow in the "vineyard" more olives than grapes and g) that one can live on site must be to understand why both opposite sides are so unforgiving and peace remains unlikely, unfortunately, for years to come.

Argentina:
Christopher and Ruben and sign (fortunately) each week the same, but always with other flowery words: "First of all, the greenest of green from the WG Rosada! going on here right now everything fine, "
or" WG rosada south BsAs announces tender spring green "or" Here with us in the South-WG straight All is well!. "
Or:" I am well and (still ) in excellent condition. With the project, the integration and the language we get here is going very well and expect a great time in the coming year, "
From the first project report by Reuben." Immediately we were surrounded by children, were pulled by the arm
, with questions (which we should understand some of them only weeks later) bombarded in thigh level embraces
or just staring with my mouth open (of course, particularly 2-meter man Chris). "
humor Officer Wolfi (photo left) reports from the north of Buenos Aires:
" Good day, dear ones,
with us is everything that is great! status green!
the work is fun, the language is getting better, and the first friends are already found. Although it rains a lot here mometan, but that does not spoil our mood!
and the most important: you could do all girls say that indeed there were no flat this year, the more balanced, more adventurous and better cooks than we are. We are already on the ascendancy, own WG cookbook to make!
So in one respect we are quite certainly "worth ";-)! marriage

here it is green, in a double sense: it is always green scenic and weekly announcement also technically. We started to go into separate projects, which is also very good. We understand well and are happy we can be here. greetings from the girls, your Max

"Hello! We are doing great in Jujuy! The job is always better, the weather is now and almost too hot. We already have the 2. times visited again by tine. We enjoy it here very much. Status: Green Love, Regards, Max "

Bolivia
Good news: Even our Bolivian team is now complete. Helmar has already settled in well and Vivi has landed well in BA and the weekend even more with our FW in Jujuy.
Helmar had received shortly after landing the first mandatory altitude sickness, but now - in the truest sense of the word - again full at the height J and his musical talents hopefully integrate well into the project. Quote: "have been received here from the other great guys that even after my plane 2-3 hours was late, still fit and were happy to pick me up at the airport. "
Each year, we have isolated Salmonella infections or to" fight to fiebre typhediea. Sebastian currently has core complaints on this matter, but he is the Medical in good care.

project goes OK. Helmar Franz has flu and birthday (yesterday).

vO Simon writes about his work in theater social project COMPA:
"We ride our buses, which can be found here everywhere are often thirty to forty minutes to our jobs, often the roads are getting worse and worse until they are only sand and stones - where we work, do theater, Lego, homework help, video, radio, newspaper, ... (...)
My host brother, little, four years old, stood on a stool and tried to fly, ¡Voy a volar! he says, "I will fly!". Actually, most of what he hears in his life, instructions, prohibitions and worries. No vas a destrozar algo. You're likely to break anything! "
(PS: But the little boy stands on the stool, spreading his arms and calls all the physics in spite of" I will fly "
Sometimes! We can all learn something from 4 years)

Stefan writes: "Hello dear ones. Santa Cruz is currently very hot and this is the smog, and when one that was not enough as South America feeling, you can always count on the sand storms here .. ;)
otherwise we will as always good here, I come to find anything in the projects .. the weekend we go out with Claudio to philosophize a bit about COMPA and discuss the work in the near term. Yesterday was a very important day for me, all of Voluntarios Alalay have met and under the coordination of Jesus (a Voluntario, not the Allmnaechtigen;) looked at various projects, and talked about problems and experiences. After that we went with social workers to the kids on the streets and have a bit set to them and talk.
From [street children project] Techo, we were last Saturday in a beautiful waterfall paradise, 3 hours from Santa Cruz ... was beautiful and very well better know the kids learn. First rule: be incredibly cool, even cooler than all the kids together-sounds strange, but Sun ;)
I write a lot of diary, on leaves, my monthly report and am currently very much English,'s just incredibly fun, because we know that every minute of what good and every word is needed ... I do very well in English talk, I was told I already have on it the Crucenischen Slang: P
runs with Meier family all very good, especially the talks with the mother are very valuable to me, that speaks very bitterly about the politics of Bolivia and the lack of social security. On my host sister I play every night after my English teacher projects, crazy how little is taught her in school! Otherwise, even the Neffinen are there, that I my free time (since the evening of 10 clock mostly) spend, which makes me a lot of fun. A bit of a pity that little time right now to explore the area or a little too easy stroll, but the project I'm also very good as I would like to not be shortened, So, therefore, is of the rest already shown, I think. All the best, by Stephanie.

Andrea from Sucre:
"Yesterday's general strike but laessig all very, very calm, almost cheerful mood! As car-free Sunday. So no probem. besides that, we had no problems. health: gisela has overcome its salmonella, I still eat everything that tastes good to me cheerful and I feel very healthy, so everything fine, "
----------------------! -----------
Max and Teresa'm fine - in a few days they will learn from their host families in their new house. In the project there is just a "disagreement" between two Bolivian Project staff, and should be avoided wherever possible our FW to be caught in the crossfire. Otherwise all good.
Lisa and Julian (photo at a performance) are back with their musical and theatrical social project by Qatar's fresh from a tour of Bolivia. Two's fine, but they report something rare (Remember Mama Schenk :-).
excerpts from Lisa's
report about her project: "The Qatari collectivo is a group of concerned citizens of Cochabamba and international volunteers, since one and a half years, the wise-people an integral part of the group. Qatari Culture House but has no leads as workshops designed (talleres) directly to schools and regular they all afternoon with theater and games in parts of Cochabamba and enrich the cultural life of the city. Dominican Republic:
Pablo is tired, but turned back enthusiastically. All FW are already well integrated, feel at ease, engaged and help in education and leisure activities in the slums. Tigre!
Max writes: "What works wonderfully constant, is the combination of Haitian and Dominican guys in our football team. It's just a good feeling to see how they work for a common goal and the same passion to share, if you know how hardened and hostile to the two fronts in other places and other events in the country are facing. "
Manu Geiger writes of a an" all-male-WG without problems "and concludes with a finding "I'm doing really good, I feel very comfortable and am happy to be here - the project with the kids makes a lot of fun. In this sense, I send you all greetings from the beautiful Dominican Republic, which really has to offer more than you see at first glance is scheint.Das here every day clear! "

And last week, "Wow, I had not written to you, just a status message? Re really to report only good things. We have in the 10 days actually in fact almost too much experience is real madness here. From Anna's Report:
"We also pick you up at every school day a little boy is in a wheelchair and bring him from school gates in the morning service and then in his class. At noon we get him back. The problem, namely, that there are no facilities for the disabled. We'll have to more up-stairs or carry down. But he is sweet, it is worthwhile :-)
(...)
you always have to again make it clear that the distances between various places in Palestine and Israel is very low. One example is Jerusalem, or Al-Qudz, say the Palestinians
: we need from Talitha only about 20 minutes by bus to get there. The city is located almost next to Bethlehem, and one can see from the roof Talithas
. Nevertheless, it is for most Palestinians virtually unattainable. Those of you who are not as well informed about the situation here, I will now explain again: It is generally not Palestinians without special permission (permit) for one or a few days may be issued to enter the Israeli territories. There are a few lucky ones, the so-called blue ID, Israeli passport or a permanent permit for such work has, with which they come across. The rest has to wait many months or years for a permit and some, including many teachers Talithas have come over a so-called black spot on the list of border controls, so they never get a permit. So if you want to go to Jerusalem, you must pass a checkpoint. The "Tunnel Checkpoint" by which we go again and looks something like this as a customs station or a place where you pay road tolls in France. If you go by bus, keep this in one place and get all the people need. Then, Israeli soldiers check their passports and searching the bus, all rise, and the bus drives on. (...)
"I got 17 years of no permit to go to Jerusalem," said Miss Firial, a religion teacher at this school to provide us with a smile. "I have a black dot
on their list, which means I never get a permit. But last Easter I am . Jumped the wall, and then I was there "

when you sit in a big hotel and did not see how it really is here? times you will come to us! "That they may be right.
(...) The
contact with children is actually a consistently positive (of course annoying sometimes
one or other of the children - and vice versa) and we had no difficulty
be accepted by them, because we represent visually an attraction alone (
blue eyes and blond, long hair is a rarity) and is therefore great interest to us.

green light from St. Petersburg!
Everything runs according to plan. The projects are, in my opinion, very well. At least, "Ostrowok" and "Dom Maletzki. Optimal order to make effekitve work. So in
Ostrowok (islets) has a new project manager. He is very accessible, Carsten and I were in a meeting yesterday some suggestions regarding the work done with the children.
One thing of which he was excited was as guitar lessons, I could offer the kiddies. Carsten had to build the idea of clay with the children to chess pieces and even chess boards. In the following, then he would like to teach the children to play and organize small tournaments. We then had the idea of rice and cloth Jonglierbaelle tinker with the children and teach them juggling. Furthermore, had the conductor asked us if we can help with homework (math, English, ...), which is not a problem yes (if the language is even better). Taken as a whole is much Wertevermnittlung take place, since in this respect much ground to cover in the 10 to 16 year olds is. They usually come from families in which much alcohol is drunk or in which they were simply neglected. We
for the meaningful work in keeping the many Freiraeume are and we can do basically everything that makes the kids fun. In the cathedral
Maletzki our first contacts with the mentally disabled have been handled very pleasant. They welcomed us very pleased. It must have been so very good experience with the volunteers made. Freddy (the manager) can use us in both craftsmanship some things well, and in the care if the motor during the kneading or similar offenses should be practiced. For him it is important that there are male employees, because the disabled are mostly mothers and fathers do not and they, therefore, proper management and the routine with men is something missing.
We can offer workshops there as seat football or even character (the main thing is the motor is funded). What we can offer even otherwise we do not know yet because we disabled people have no experience and therefore not really know what works and what does not. But we will make suggestions and discuss them with Freddy him.
We currently have 1 time a week 2 hours language course. The language is very difficult, but actually I have a good feeling. We want to start in any case be separated in the projects so that we least daytime only Russian around to us. Incidentally we also talk with the girl at the moment we live Russian. Kind regards, Robert
"I have not had the feel of a culture shock - I feel than when I shower every day with cold water. Strange to see, however, are the suburban areas, which I would call almost as ghetto. " Many things are still new And of course, it will still take a while until we bring optimal. But contact with the guys is amazing well what we expected after all the warning not necessarily. With Sister also . All right, "
his beautiful monthly report includes Daniel with the words:
" I could go on to write very long. From the warmth with which we were taken

breathtaking natural beauty, our awesome children, or failed also on the a trip with them to the

My work is very varied in Masizame and I was given from the beginning a lot of confidence. At the same time I have been given much freedom, which of course is related with great responsibility. "

Simon Geiger:
"I'm doing really well here! Kahle kakhulu! (Very good!). The week without the children is overcome, and come back on Monday the little rascal. In the holidays we have included in the hospital in Harding and have the kiddies there, painted, played, laughed, and I was even allowed to feed a cute little baby:)
the weekend we were invited to a traditional ceremony in a "rural area", slaughtered cows for the extra 3 were. We were the only two Umlungus (white) and for some of the kids the first white men they have ever seen "live" - almost unbelievable in South Africa in the 21st century!
