REHABILITATION OF THE ROLE OF THE FEELING OF CG JUNG IN OUR CONTEMPORARY CIVILIZATION

Translation José Zavala and Martha S. Perez

Being a medical student, between 21 and 23 years, Jung gave four lectures to their fellow students in the youth group of Zofingia in Basel. In one, 1897, quotes the following passage from Kant's psychology: "The main cause is always the morality, it is sacrosanct and inhere, we must protect and this is also the foundation and end of all our speculations and research. From here go all metaphysical speculations. God and the "Other World" is the sole end of all our philosophical investigations and whether the concepts of God and the "Other World" are not in relation to morality, would not be at all usable "

Then - after a strong attack on its part to materialism in general - Jung continues: "It must, first. As "top-down revolution, show him as a need morality to science and their representatives through certain transcendental truths ... For example, it is necessary in the Physiological Institute, where, intentionally weakens the force of moral judgments of students, through shameful and barbaric experiments, through cruel torture of animals that mock all mankind - in such institutes, say, teach that " no truth to be investigated through an immoral way, it is attributed right of existence. " (My italics)

After this, go back to Kant and Jung stresses the idea that only believe in realities that are beyond the material world can guarantee roughly an attitude of moral life of man. What I want to highlight through these quotations is that Jung was in itself a kind of introverted thinking but even at this youth conference is to express his feeling. He was never a cold intellectual. From this conference 84 years have passed, and where are we today in connection with this problem?.

The cruel torture of animals has now been extended by the thousands not only in scientific laboratories, but also recently in agriculture and therefore has spread to the torture of countless human beings worldwide. Military experts estimate today how cold blood could be annihilated in a nuclear war millions of human beings. Okay, this is your profession, but no longer can tell they are shocked and depressed when they have to "calculate" this way. Certainly these facts are known, so I better go back to what is close, that is our own field: psychology. There, in the universities as the statistic is the only evidence "hard", ie statistics, are taken seriously, Jung, however, set for a very long time the nail on the head, the statistics paint just an abstract intellectual image of the investigated object, not the reality: for example if we find that a lot of these stones weigh ½ kg on average, actually almost did not find a single stone of the exact weight!. So, we built a model of reality We mix abstract and then with the current reality, but more accurately view, consists of pure exceptions. All are mathematically based sciences this way, and because Jung did not do this is to blame for being "unscientific" - maybe this is even true, but Jung is more realistic. In therapy suppressed the distance from the white coat of the physician who treats the patient as a impersonal object, each patient was his personal feeling, whether it was positive or negative and each time was a personal encounter analysis. Disciples of Jung, who once again smuggled required technical processes such as discussion of the transfer, and simply have returned back to a mindset prejunguiano. This applies especially to the so-called problem of transcendence, that is, the relationship of feeling itself, but is treated as a manipulated variable.

Jung writes in a letter saying: "The transfer solution is often simply that one ceases to describe their relationship as transference. This word devalues the relationship to a mere projection "which is" the transference is an illusion of unity, if viewed from the standpoint of conventional collective. The "uniqueness" exists only and only between individuated human beings, they do not have any other "type of relationships that the individual, ie, unique nature." (1) So - so it must be concluded - should be used only the word "transfer", there, where ambition intentionally devalue any of the illusory projections, but not feeling the relationship is built slowly over the course of treatment .

Of course, a false kindness, and kindness endures all things, as some analysts show their patients, it is also equally false (sic) - is the old general practitioner's role and serve as a means of disguise to avoid engañante to express themselves and genuine feelings, feelings that often are not at all able to love all, ie - not suitable to avoid too - friction and confrontaciones.Esta "person" under certain circumstances "characterized by their kindness "is a derivative of Christian sentimentality which still will return later.

But first, back to the problem of science. Our world modern science and technology and their way of life is fundamentally built by scientists whose primary function is extroverted or introverted thinking. In physics, for example, introverts like Einstein, Bohr, Pauli, etc ... prefer theoretical physics: Extroverts like Werner von Braum, experimental physics. The function of intuition is not entirely excluded, because it requires speculative associations to find new models of thinking.

"But the feeling is not stated anywhere, sometimes only in well-meaning phrases and children, containing all, mostly, the little word "Should." And with the exception of Niels Bohr, all physicists have collaborated mentioned or agreed to collaborate in the manufacture of the atomic bomb!. Today, in USA there is a current among physicists with a trend towards Hindu philosophy, which, indeed, is anti-materialistic, but that in no way considers the individual's life.

What has become inhuman in modern medicine, needs no explanation. The newspapers are full of it, but almost nothing happens. So do not be estimated sufficiently high and the first and solo work of Dr. Kubler Ross who dared take a step in the right direction. Another area

where our sense failure unfortunately is called aid for development. Benno Glauser The doctor has written about this excellent article in the journal of the Swiss Red Cross (2). He exposes how trying to "help" people of other cultures, but at the same time, trying to impose our religious or scientific views and thus destroy the very foundation of spiritual and religious life. Our doctors, missionaries, planners and agricultural advisers leave all of the assumption that we "know" what is right or wrong for others and then increasingly disappointed and angry that these people reject our help with apathy, resistance and called ungrateful.

I quote the article as an Indian Glauser Pai Paraguay told a medical assistant (3): "For us, Pai, health is a state we call" tekoresai. " For this "state of being healthy" (sic) is safeguarded, must be given different things and circumstances, all of which belong to the "state of being healthy" and are: plants and trees individually as a cure all, But also all the plants and trees together, are words made, true and weighed, good nutrition, not acting beyond the thinking and conceiving of others; primary forest, harmony, community people, talk with others and have conversation, the proper conservation of "our way of being" live our true culture and essence of our being, the feeling of strength that we are able to through all the things I mentioned, and holding our community together, to live peacefully in our homeland security, to live together in the family and community of the people, the holidays. Come ye then white and we do depend on the money and other material things: it destroys our "state of being healthy." To you slander, speak ill of others, you take away our earth ground means not having anything to eat, to have nothing to eat means disease and end meteis hand in your pocket and do you find a small white tablet, and want us to believe that if we eat this pill in there, that health was pellet was health. "

everything we do is based as destructive stresses Glauser, a fundamental lack of respect for other human beings and their cultural values of feeling, which are of a different nature, in other words it is based on a distinct lack of genuine feeling. In the background we know exactly about these disastrous effects of our behavior and about the growing hatred of other nations against race white, but we seem not to be able to discover something of this. However

not need to go to people who are so in the distance, the same attitude devoid of feeling prevails among us of one group to another. The planners in our region and our city for example, develop in their neighborhoods and streets city plans to further destroy the happiness of countless human beings. Think objectively, that if a farmer who has been expropriated land get adequate compensation for money or other land for the thing would be solved. But this peasant especially love his piece of land does not "count." Or we get older their poor homes where cats keep and feed birds and are surprised when they die suddenly in their so-called new, better and more hygienic neighborhood, where or cats or birds do their business. But

What we do?, "Changing our policy, and then our laws? Is that handles these issues openly latter?. Eric Newman, so militant, wanted to establish in his book "Psychology of the deep and new ethic" new lists of moral rules, his book has hit the bottom but yielded no results, probably not this the way to deal with problem. I believe that the 22 year old Jung hit the nail on the head, that is, we must first recognize the "reality of the soul", ie the unconscious, and thereby also the reality of the image of God or the Self, and a reality transmaterial before we catch anything else. Let me give an example: not long ago here in Germany gave a lecture on dreams of people close to death that seem to point towards a possible life after death. After the conference, a nurse approached me with tears in my eyes and said: "! What you said can not be true, otherwise it should be recognized that such dreadful things are in my ...!" (She said), but clearly had mistreated dying patients - perhaps they had stolen - the view that they would no longer be conscious, so their actions would have no consequences. But of course, what if your soul was a still hang round?. That would be something else. It is no coincidence that Dr. Kubler-Ross now begin to address, as I have heard of spiritualism. It is the logical consequence of his work with people nearing death, if not convinced, as we will be us, the reality of the unconscious, his feeling this phone.

In all religions of all time there was and is the representation of a God or gods and a world in "Beyond," non-material life: and he alone, can form the foundation of ethics to a more real. So Jung says that "turning a blind eye of divinity seems to have the value everywhere and always, to be as evil and profoundly deeper begetter" (4)

Conversely, the essence of all ethics is based on the phenomenon of consciousness, ie in the 1st feeling relationship between "individual and the transcendent" (5) or the archetype of the Self.

What we instead we experience in the rough material world, is to "give over the unjust suffering and triumph injustice. Because of honesty, "if it is put into practice, it is taken for a fool naive. Ino-cent suffering from the early Christian martyrs served at least one effect on the mass and converted many to Christianity.

But who still remembers the name of this young German schoolteacher, who voluntarily went to the gas chamber to comfort Jewish students?. What is causing the suffering of dissidents, and courageous Christians in Russia? Nothing! We read about it in newspapers, and we set aside with a resigned shrug.

Dr. Liliane Frey has published dream, a dying patient whose life had been a succession of external failures. He dreamed: (6) "A voice ... I said: Your work and suffering deliberately walked through have redeemed a hundred generations before you and light a hundred generations after you. "Here again is the existence of a world beyond what crucially important. In a There is no material world only consolation for this man.

But why this has particularly to do with the function of feeling? Is not recognizing an important psychic reality for each of the four functions of consciousness ?. Obviously, if the ethics of values is "ultimately a highly differentiated product function of feeling" (7), Jung writes, it also requires a certain intelligence, on which I shall return. But in any case ethics can not exist without feeling different, otherwise it becomes a rigid code of conduct rules, ie a pure collective duty: "I have to", "should I". Everyone can experience that when for example a police ordinance is applied simple schematic, or in po-scale we can see how the Russian state apparatus.

Now someone might argue, then where are the guys who have the feeling as main function, namely should also exist in large numbers in all people?, why they do not compensate for this deficiency?. Here we make a distinction between the existence of sentimental types, and the collective style of the era, and collective activity-tion of a culture. Naturally we have many types differentiated sentimental feeling between us, but the fashion, the collective spirit of action and value does not recognize the feeling. That weakens the influence of feeling even the guys that have the main function. Plus, the lower a kind of feeling, as we know, is thinking, which have so often the lower tendencies of the time: in ours, materialism and intellectualism flights. We see, for example in more of a Latin culture, a preference for the Communist ideology in its most simplistic, while the town itself is rather little lacking in feelings and relationships, and instead are more people than Latin. I think here in Spain, Italy and some South American countries. What is especially bad is that the official spirit of the times today devalues the feeling. We often hear the trial - for example, against the opponents of nuclear power - which they "claim only sentimental arguments rather than rational basis for its application", and certainly with the implicit sense that a sentimental argument is, eo ipso nonsense. In a similar way this appears in the riots by youths armed rebels. Some well-meaning attempts to try again and again come into contact with the young rebels in a "reasonable" (in quotes!) Entirely without result, because these young people are moved by feelings completely confused, mostly nega-tive, not can be translated in a language of thinking or perceiving. Many governments are proposing a program described as powerful support for young people without work in order to enable a subsequent instruction. That is surely good and just, but will it help enough?. Will it turn from a young rebel without a job if you learn a little more information. Do we know that the Soviets paid in part to these rebels, but is it enough then we give them money too?. I do not think we can fix a lot, if we ourselves remain at the level of mate-imperialist thinking rationally, not that this is completely false and only false when we believe everything. Jung wrote in a letter (8) "we have come to be unilaterally and rationalist intellectuals you" and have completely forgotten that There are still other factors that are influenced by the righteousness of reason and understanding. So we see everywhere ignite an emotional mystic from the Middle Ages had been missing. This is a compensation ra-ask too technical progress.

therefore need, rather than understanding and reason, as these are further irritate young, we should be able to offer an overview of new and creative ways of being a global spiritual standpoint and not material, as all-in my think we should be able to build a relationship with the unconscious as a transcendent reality, beyond the senses, a relationship that should not only be made with the understanding, but also with feeling and emotion.

What happens to the many forms of Eastern mysticism that have become so fashionable in the West?. They too have become too easily among us again something intellectual in the final. instance apply them in thinking and intuition, or as ways of Yoga, to perception. These teachings are, as Jung points out, more properly theological systems that have little or no account at all, the individual and his individual relationship with the Divine. "For too, Eastern wisdom, he writes, (9) is replaced immediate experience and thus access to psychology. But it is conceivable that men always try to first go through all the beaten track-two, before they decide to embark on the road as ever trod. "And in a

. Letter to Miguel Serrano (10) also writes:" You chose two good representatives of East and West. Krishnamurti is totally irrational and leave the solutions to the passivity, ie leaves, as belonging to Mother Nature, happen by themselves. Toynbee, meanwhile, believes that opinions, opinions can be built and shaped. Neither one nor the other believes in the flowering and deployment of the individual as an experiment and a dubious and misleading work of the living God. He must lend our eyes and ears and minds .. dora discrimination "(because God wants us to take place in consciousness)" We need urgently a truth or a self, in a manner similar to that of ancient Egypt, as I I found the Indians still live in Taos-Villages. The ceremonial head of girls of their worship, the old Ochwiah Biano (Mountain Lake) told me: "We are the people who live on the roof of the world, are the children of Sun is our Father. Every day we help you up ..... We do not do just for ourselves, but also by American .... If they go ahead impidiéndonoslo, in 10 years the sun will no more. " With the right meant that their days, their light, their consciousness and die if the narrow sense of the destroyed American rationalism. And that will happen to the world, if delivered at the same rationalism.

Elsewhere (11) Jung emphasizes that when we en-uncritically the teachings of the East, and for us the ideas are often more important than their own internal vi-da, hope and ecstasy-releasing origi-nal experience are lost early and petrified in a predominantly intellectual effort, so that instead of original experience have exerted an imitation as a method.

Many eastern methods become unconscious even to oppress rather than establishing a relationship with him (12). All this may be sufficient to show that Jung's vision there can be no ethics without an original and lively experience of the divine. There is not by adherence to a theological doctrine or otherwise. The original experience can be experienced only by the individual, I have not experienced it is never really real to me, can exist in my head as an idea or opinion, but not experience. One thing is that I know only from books that exist-ing the elephant, and one I've seen, tracked, touched one of them. Only this is a actual experience, if I myself experiment something with all functions, including the feeling.

But then what about the Christian love of neighbor - is not this in the background that we seek and what we should return? Surely Christianity at first was a total experience of feeling. The prime-ros Christians were mostly slaves, and non-cultivated, and love between brothers and sisters created a fruitful link between them. Many early Christians even boasted of being intellectual. But soon the indoctrination theological, dogmatic disputes and persecution of other faiths won the frontal and the universal love of neighbor was restricted by the principle of power, that mortal enemy of all forms of love.

The Marxist theme of international solidarity is more than a return to the ideal spectrum of love from the early Christians, but based on the transcendent side, but only in relation to the 1st side only material existence.

In our time all the nations of the earth have come in the technical, economic and intellectual and we need especially the feeling of a general partnership. So this is a triumph in the communist propaganda (13). But as the Soviet system disappointed many of his supporters in this regard, many turned to Eurocommunism and the like. In South America, Che Guevara has often been held to the letter, as a sort of he-hero of love, especially for women. Despite all the disappointments also many church representatives from all denominations are turning to Marxism because they feel that is close to the ideal of brotherly love of early Christianity. But where will we find the power shows opposite results.

Jung writes (14): "The more collective systems, political parties and state whether they act destructively on human relationships. These can be easily destroyed, because individual men are still in a state of unconsciousness which has not developed at par with the tremendous growth and fusion of the masses. As we know, in all totalitarian countries governing the main concern of mine the personal relationships with fear and distrust, so there arises a fragmented mass, in which the human soul is stifled completely. Even the parent-child relationship that is as close and natural, is torn by the state (...). The only way to prevent this is to develop awareness of the human being individually. By this means he becomes immune to the seduction of the organizations co-teaching. Only because it retains its soul for the soul's life depends on human relations (15). The focus should be on that man becomes conscious and non-state organization ".

And elsewhere writes (16):" The reciprocal membership and coexistence of mankind is one of the most important questions of existence . But this is complicated by having to also be an individual matter, it is only possible when society has a value only re1ativo. otherwise it floods and destroys even the individual, and then it does not already exist. In other words : A genuine partnership can only be made by independent in-dividuals which only so much can be social beings. Only they can carry out the will of God exists in each one ... "(The society needs genuine" psychological understanding and empathy at different points of view).

Many young people, mainly left-leaning, are now experimenting with life in communities, trying - so worthy - a new form of relationship in society. But from what I've experienced it, such communities are torn open again and again because of their infighting. The enthusiastic feelings of a loving acceptance of another does not hold when it comes to everyday life, because it is too idealistic and sentimental undifferentiated. As a consequence affects instead explosive popping society. But affection and emo-tions are the signs of an undifferentiated feeling. I examined some young men living in communities, and was going on in other people as well as about their romantic relationships, but the case in most ca-sos they left the original community and instead created a circle of personal friends.

Today, many are a form of worship of feelings and emotions: positive, in the form of musical happenings, or negative, by quarrels or fights. Those who dispute that often created by expressing feelings but that's not entirely true however, as the feelings only in their primitive state are attached to emotions, but instead the distinct feeling is not at all emo-tion (17). Emotions and affections are consciously promoting something unhealthy and ultimately lead to destruction. But what has that to do with Christian love of neighbor and then worldly-matter 1 in the Co-Socialism and Communism? (18). Its positive aspect is a general human empathy that we re-lation to all men but the downside is the sentiment and emotional child, which is not simply the opposite side of the brutality (19).
As our old ladies
woven wool pants for little black naked slave traders of these confessions were destroying the lives of thousands of black men. This applies just as an example to show that sentimentality and brutality are two sides of a coin. So we can not regression-child sar such Christian love of neighbor, but we must turn to him as a general human love in a higher level. What would this more or less?, Jung calls it "a new form of Eros (Love), which has an all-encompassing action, curative and irradiating an individuated personality. (20)

This Eros is also a female principle recognized (21). This form of love is "was symbolized by the alchemical tradition of a strange picture: the blood of co-lor pink, exuding from the stone of the wise or" homo putíssimus "and cures to all men. Homo means man putissimus exudate or the more genuine (not mixed), as opposed to homo purisimus Christ, the purest man (22). He is a man who knows all that is human and is not distorted by any outside influence or mixture. The free the world from evil to the end of time by its pink blood. This represents some kind of Eros, which unifies both it and the mu-chos, and returns total the individual and the crowd, and which has to compensate for the lack of feeling of our times, a form of love that is linked with a higher self and inner vision. That far out Christian love was too blind and without insight, for it can be explained to the Inquisition. "The more love is blind," says Jung, (23) therefore is more instinctive and impulsive, and leads to destructive consequences, it is a dynamis you need shape and orientation. " For correct use needs therefore a larger con-science and higher point of view, as an unconscious man is ex-travian by their projections and so can not see the other at all and love is co-mo. Too unconsciousness creates the feeling away, but also occurs early closeness too big, too close, a do-together without criticism, which they des-enantiodromia explodes in bursts through mutual affection. A sentiment relations differential change involves a certain distance, in each ca-so different. Jung writes in a letter: (24) "The shortening of the chapter it belongs more important and more difficult inividuación process. The danger is always that distance is built in the form only unilateral, which inevitably emerges a form of violence followed the consequent resentment. Any re-lation has its optimal distance that naturally must be found empirically you. Objections must be carefully considered ... "Jung emphasizes the fact that this is especially difficult between man and woman, and then mixed sexuality too. A distinct feeling relationship would therefore be both a sympathetic and warm personal closeness to the other, and likewise also a certain distance, an understanding and not understanding, which means the silent secret respected tar of another human being. For a blind and instinctive lover this distance causes great pain, but assures him or her also their own freedom, without which individuation is possible. This seems a point of great importance and significance for the future.

In a discussion about the danger of a third war, this time from an atomic war, Jung has said that the only opposing force could be a universal religious movement (25) leading to a complete shift. Since Jung wrote this in 1945, we see that there have been attempts in this direction in several places: for example a revival of Islam, sects and the Bahai, Korean Moonies, Buddhist missions or incon-tables Hindu gurus. They all try to encourage this global movement and not less the Catholic Church, in which time and again ", the spirit animal touches the ground" (26), as recent events in Poland showed again. But unfortunately all these religious systems are not just a redeeming factor, they themselves have themselves also a dangerous som-bra. An archetype that moves the masses, mainly leads people to think that they alone hold the truth so why persecute those who think otherwise. In addition, religious leaders aspire again and again along the lines of political leaders, to fully identify the individual with his truth, a truth which remains nevertheless always unilateral. "Even if it were a great truth, the identification with it would, however, something of a disaster, because the subsequent spiritual development will stagnate. Instead of knowledge has then only conviction, and this is much easier therefore more attractive "(27). In other words, a universal religious movement could save us from spiritual destruction of materialism, and perhaps a third world war, but would always have the disadvantage to provide for a certain mob mentality. Only a conscious insight led to its own shadow and the shadow of the archetypes, that is, religious forces could protect the psyche gregaria and its tendency to be drawn into self-destruction. But that means we must develop a distinct feeling - including the required distance - towards the inner powers - should establish a relationship of self to you with the Self, the divine or numinous, and instead not to develop instead an uncritical religious fanaticism based on the possession by the numinous.

's relationship with the similar feeling out and archetypal powers in the interior is complemented funny. In his memoirs Jung emphasizes that the standard of life is the relationship with the unlimited, ie the numinous world of the archetype (28). "Only when-do I know what unlimited is essential, do not waste my interest in trivia ... Ultimately only has value because of the essential, and if it is not that life has been wasted. Also in relation to other men what matters is whether what is expressed in it unlimited or not. " Jung meant by this that a deep relationship with others is possible only by the Self-ble Mimo. I usually only associations exist to me surface of-interest. As the Self is achieved in a relationship, I can not say. Jung has attempted to show in his books on the transfer and Coniunctionis Mysterium. But again and again remains a mysterious adventure of Love

I think - to conclude - that today's request Jung is becoming better understood during his lifetime, but in this most essential point, the rehabilitation of human-Eros human and distinct relationship with the transcendent feeling is still considered too little. Many people consider the proposals of Jung as a philosophical system or theory or even worse, a new collective ideology or a new orientation in theory psychological, something none of them is. The analytical process is a process of pure empirical experience, in which psychology as a pure science is finally transcended (29). During this process, everything becomes a living encounter with inner and outer bodies beef, with whom we establish a relationship of sentiment. Jung puts the accent on the individual elements is consciously and purposely so unilateral, pa-ra counteract the current prevailing collective unilateralism. "There's always - written around 1934 (30) - two points of view and always will be, the leader's point of view social leader, which, as far as idealistic sees salvation in a more or less complete suppression of the individual (for society) and the spiritual leader who seeks to achieve an improvement only on the individual. I see no possibility of reconciliation between them, since they form a pair of opposites must keep the world in balance. " Jung saw his own work on improving the individual, which just does not work without a feeling relationship, personal and unique. Maybe later he enters any time in history, as the gentleman sought to bring back to society the former crown of the Grail, the feminine principle of Eros, that is, as that "homo putissimus" of Alchemy, which oozed a pink blood - a new way of healing and all-embracing love, which failed to neutralize the opposing pair of recently called collective-individual, but nevertheless was able to build a bridge between them.
